Starting a routine with your new baby

Feed your baby 3 hourly during the day and allow him/her to go longer at night but not longer than 4 hours in the first 6 weeks.

Babies need to be cuddled , have eye contact and be spoken to when they are awake.  At night keep your voice low and dim the lights.

Internal factors such as hunger and fatigue seem to drive their rhythm.  A baby will sleep longer when he is growing in length but he will be hungry when he is needing to gain weight.

In the first year it is difficult to get him into a solid routine.

Remember if your baby is happy and contented he is getting enough sleep and drinking enough milk.
