The story begins when I have just been the doula to a couple in the Midlands after being asked to help them with the birth of their second baby and hopefully the first of many natural births.  Their daughter was born by c section. After an easy second pregnancy and much fear of another caesar little Zane was born naturally.

I was leaving the ward when I heard a mum crying softly.   Stepping into the ward I asked if she was okay? She burst into tears and told me she was having a caesar in about 30 mins as she  had had a difficult pregnancy and the gynaecologist was now taking the baby out at 32 weeks.  I sat with her and we talked and talked.  I helped her with the idea that the c section was going to be easy and that her little girl would have a good chance being a little girl (as they as supposed to be stronger).  She listened and we held the moment!

She asked me if I could go into the theatre with her as she was so nervous and  I spoke to the staff and ended up in theatre with her...  (my husband about to fectch me had to be asked to go and do some more shopping in the area).  He is a marvelous generous man and supports me in all the birthing and caring that I do.  Without his help I certainly could not follow my passion as a student midwife and doula!

Cherice, Martin and I went into theatre and I pulled up a chair and sat close to Cherice s head and I spoke softly to her and held her hand... Martin stood behind us in awe of the operation and the birth of his first baby. he was also really nervous!  The baby was born yelling and very active. She was placed on Cherice s chest for a few minutes before going into NICU.  Martin went with the baby upstairs to NICU and this is where I can help as I stay with the mum in theatre just being a presence.  Keeping her calm during the stitching is sometimes not easy as she feels abandoned left alone in theatre.

I had to leave when Cherice went into the Recovery Ward as by now my husband was getting restless.

I received a very special "Thank You" from Cherice.

"You were an Angel sent from God today! I can never repay you for what you did."

Life is about giving and I was able to help Cherice when she most needed me. There has to be a higher presence for me to have stopped and walked into that ward at that time and be able to help!

Cassidy is growing well and will soon be out of NICU and with her Mum and Dad!

we keep in contact daily!

What I Do

I am living my dream while working with mums and babies. I see mums when they are 34 weeks pregnant and then go to their homes once they go into labour. I stay for the full duration of the labour and after the birth I assist them with breast feeding. I do another visit after the birth to see that all is well and to help where I can.  Mums are always welcome to call me in the event that they have any questions, whether before or after the birth. I am passionate about my work as a doula and I care and love all the families with which I work. Once you have been present at a birth you feel part of the family and it’s wonderful to hear news of the new baby’s life as he or she grows.
