Birth Stories:

Ryan Matthew Hayden

We met Ginny in 2013 before we were even engaged. Friends of ours had used her for their first son. My then girlfriend bronwyn expressed interest in using Ginny when we eventually had kids. We were married in March 2014 and started trying not long after. After a long wait we were delighted to find on an early april morning that bron was 6weeks along. We knew we wanted to use Ginny as bron was adamant for a natural birth. We met with Ginny a few months in and planned the whole thing. Well our little man had other ideas and on 3 December 2 weeks early bron woke with contractions we called Ginny at 5 and she told us to come to Hilton. We got in a midwife and Bron was only 1cm dilated, Ginny was amazing supporting a very disappointed Bron. Ginny said GO SHOPPING get her walking so we did so. Zinger wings, pineapple and Sponspek were brought and fed by the dozen. We had a sleep at Ginnys flat and later that afternoon Bron was 6 minutes apart. At 7pm we went to Hilton Hospital and Still only 1cm. Bron was devastated. So she asked to go back to Ginnys hoping that comfort would make it happen. Bron went to sleep and we woke Ginny up at 4.30 with strong contractions Ginny was into the cottage in a shot and off to hospital we went and still only 1cm. Bron was so despondent. Ginny calmed us down and Dr Hadley Grave was called and he instructed for a oral drink to induce labour Bron was still contracting hard at 11 and Dr Grave Broke the waters, only 2cm and meconium in the water showing distress he gave bron 2 hours to dilate and if no change he would do a c section. Well things started happening properly 30 minutes in bron was contracting hard and in agony, i was besides myself and Ginny was incredible she kept Bron calm and me calm and she was incredible in her support. Bron was contracting for someone at 8cm and she had only got to 3cm. I looked at Ginny who shook her head and i knew. Seeing my wife in that much pain i told the sisters to call dr Grave and book a theatre. Bron is terrified of Theatre and Ginny spoke to her and she was fine. at 14.05 Ryan Matthew Haden was born via C-Section. Ginny was not allowed in theatre but she was there straight after and she helped bron feed and with everything in betwee, we did skin on skin with both bron and i. The Hilton Life Hospital also needs a mention, the Service, food and care is 5 star. Ginny allowed me to stay at her cottage while Bron was in Hospital and she came through everyday and helped during the jaundice and discharge she has been helping Bron over ther phone and with feeding and advice. MY ADVICE FOR ALL FIRST TIME DADS ESPECIALLY is to use a doula. Ginny was our rock in that labour ward and without her id hate to think of the stress we would have been under and could have well ended badly. THANK YOU Ginny Oosthuizen for your advice, support and help during thursday and friday.

What I Do

I am living my dream while working with mums and babies. I see mums when they are 34 weeks pregnant and then go to their homes once they go into labour. I stay for the full duration of the labour and after the birth I assist them with breast feeding. I do another visit after the birth to see that all is well and to help where I can.  Mums are always welcome to call me in the event that they have any questions, whether before or after the birth. I am passionate about my work as a doula and I care and love all the families with which I work. Once you have been present at a birth you feel part of the family and it’s wonderful to hear news of the new baby’s life as he or she grows.
