Birth Stories:

Guy Hector Fyvie

Birth of Guy Hector Fyvie

At medi clinic in Pmb on the 18th March 2010.

Gynaecologist Dr S. Amod from Pmb. KZN.

I received a call from Emma to say things had started on the morning of the 17th March so she said she would drive down to Pmb and have reflexology and give me a call later.

Emma called at 18h30 to say the pains were much stronger now and that she would wait for Kevin to arrive back from work and then we could go down to the hospital. We all met there at 20h30 and Emma was in strong labour. She used the birth ball and I helped her with various positions and warm face cloths and ice etc.  the time flew and before we knew it she was ready to have her baby.  Dr Amod arrived at 22h30 and she began to push. The baby was lying in a posterior position which was difficult for Emma so we gave her time and she birthed him at 00h35 on the 18th March. He was looking at us as he came into this world.  He was healthy and strong and was skin on skin and breast feed as soon as possible.  No looking back Guy was a very aware baby that went home very soon after he was born.

Emma , Kevin and I had a cup of tea and chatted about how beautiful his birth was!

What I Do

I am living my dream while working with mums and babies. I see mums when they are 34 weeks pregnant and then go to their homes once they go into labour. I stay for the full duration of the labour and after the birth I assist them with breast feeding. I do another visit after the birth to see that all is well and to help where I can.  Mums are always welcome to call me in the event that they have any questions, whether before or after the birth. I am passionate about my work as a doula and I care and love all the families with which I work. Once you have been present at a birth you feel part of the family and it’s wonderful to hear news of the new baby’s life as he or she grows.
